Canadian Home Prices Up In Spring

The Canadian housing market experienced a robust rebound in May, with home sales surging in 70% of local markets. This surge in demand led to a rally in home prices, as indicated by the Teranet-National Bank Composite House Price Index. Notably, the index showed a 1.6% increase in May, marking the first monthly rise in eleven months.

Teranet attributes the recovery in property prices to the strong resurgence of the resale market and Canada’s record-breaking demographic growth, which has contributed to a shortage of available housing. This shortage is expected to persist due to declining housing starts across the country.
